The FREEDOM THEATER, in collaboration with Al Balad Theater presents:
STORIES FROM THE ARAB SPRING
This interactive theatre event we will invite audience members to share autobiographical accounts relating to the Arab Spring. The performance will be held on Friday February 24th from 7:30 to 9:00 pm at the Al Balad Theatre in Amman, Jordan.
In particular, we welcome true stories about the use of popular struggle and civil resistance (including strikes, rallies, social media and art activism) to organize, communicate, raise awareness and demand reform.
We also welcome personal accounts relating to the social, economic and political oppressions that sparked the Arab Spring.
An ensemble of performers will use Playback Theatre to instantly transform these accounts into pieces of improvised theatre and music.

BACKGROUND
On February 25th, 2011, ten thousand protesters took to the streets of Amman demanding substantial economic and political reform. This protest, and those that followed, are part of the regional movement that opposes human rights violations, government corruption, unemployment and poverty.
Through the sharing of personal accounts, and through the medium of improvisational theatre, we will reflect upon and dialogue about the past year: the hopes, the struggles, the actions and the accomplishments.
PLAYBACK THEATRE
Playback Theatre is an interactive theatre approach used in over 50 countries as a tool for community building, public dialogue, trauma recovery, social activism, and popular education. In a Playback event, audience members share thoughts, feelings, memories and autobiographical accounts, and watch as a team of actors and musicians instantly transform these experiences into improvised theatre pieces.
