This is an open\u00a0letter from representatives of the international volunteers and staff members,\u00a0the\u00a0friends, supporters and foundation of The Freedom Theatre in Jenin to the\u00a0Israeli\u00a0security apparatus including the Shabak, the Israeli army and Israeli police.<\/p>\n
After the attack\u00a0on The Freedom Theatre’s office and multimedia centre, during which you\u00a0arrested\u00a0our head technician Adnan Naghnaghiye and Bilal Saadi, the chairperson of The\u00a0Freedom Theatre Board in Jenin; and after you have for two weeks refused Adnan\u00a0and Bilal\u00a0access to a lawyer, treated them inhumanely and denied them their basic\u00a0human rights, and\u00a0after the arrest of our acting student Rami Hwayel, we hereby state:<\/p>\n
We encourage all\u00a0efforts to find whoever is responsible for the brutal murder of Juliano Mer Khamis\u00a0and\u00a0we are deeply concerned that the murderer has not yet been found.\u00a0Nevertheless we reject the inhumane methods that you apply in investigating the murder. The\u00a0Freedom\u00a0Theatre has been seriously damaged by your actions which have further\u00a0implanted fear and trauma not only among our students and employees\u00a0but also into the very\u00a0society we aim to empower.<\/p>\n
By acting the\u00a0way that you act you have once again proved to the residents of Jenin\u00a0refugee camp as well as to the outside world that the only methods you know are\u00a0the ones involving violence, terror and fear. We in The Freedom\u00a0Theatre have nothing to\u00a0conceal redarding the murder of Juliano Mer Khamis.<\/p>\n
We have made\u00a0that very clear and we state it again that everyone in the theatre has given\u00a0statements to the Palestinian Police when they were\u00a0asked to do so\u00a0and are willing to do so again.<\/p>\n
No matter what harm\u00a0you cause to us or the theatre, we will continue our struggle for individual and\u00a0collective liberation. We have joined our comrades in Jenin Refugee Camp in\u00a0their struggle\u00a0for liberation using culture and non-violence in order to not only shake off the occupation that\u00a0you keep the Palestinian people under, but\u00a0also other forms of oppression that they are faced\u00a0with.<\/p>\n
We demand that our\u00a0friends and colleagues who have been subjected to severe\u00a0cases of\u00a0human rights abuses will be treated with absolute respect for all their basic\u00a0human\u00a0rights according to international conventions, receive immediate access\u00a0to their lawyer and be\u00a0promptly released.<\/p>\n
