The anniversary will bring\u00a0together Palestinian theatre companies, performers and scholars, with the aim\u00a0of exploring the role of the arts in the broader Palestinian popular struggle movement. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>PROGRAM<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/thefreedomtheatre.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Program-Forum-and-Festival.pdf\">Program Forum and Festival<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>SPEAKERS<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Alaa\u00a0Hlehel:\u00a0Post-colonialism and the role of culture<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Alaa Hlehel is an author, playwright and journalist. He has an\u00a0MA in Mass Communication and Fine Arts from Haifa University and is the\u00a0chief editor of Qadita website for literature and culture. Hlehel is also\u00a0a translator for human rights and cultural organisations as well as a translator of books and plays.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Moderator: <strong>Nabil Al-Raee<\/strong>, Artistic director of The Freedom Theatre, theatre director and playwright, actor and instructor, trained with Theatre Day Productions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Hala Nassar:\u00a0Cultural production and confusing agendas<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hala Nassar is a lecturer,\u00a0researcher and writer on Arab\/Palestinian theatre, literature and drama. She is considered the first Palestinian academic to focus on Palestinian theatre in Western academia. Her book on the history of Palestinian theatre is forthcoming and she is co-editor of Mahmoud Darwish; <em>Exile\u2019s Poet.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Moderator:\u00a0<strong>Mervat Ayash<\/strong>, Artist and lecturer\u00a0in interior design at An Najah University, member of the board of The Freedom Theatre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Ilan Papp\u00e9 (via video link): Culture confronting occupation<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ilan Papp\u00e9 is a historian, professor at Exeter University and director of the university&#8217;s European Centre for Palestine Studies,\u00a0author of among other books\u00a0<em>The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Modern Middle East<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>A History of Modern Palestine: One Land, Two Peoples.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Moderator: <strong>Gabriel Varghese<\/strong>, Co-artistic director of Sandpit Arts (UK), writer and theatre director,\u00a0recently completed his\u00a0Ph.D. at Exeter University on the history of Palestinian theatre after the first Intifada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Khaled Katamesh and Ramzi Abu Adwan:\u00a0Art under occupation &#8211; experiences and common goals<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Khaled Katamesh is the director of El Funoun Dance Troupe and a co-founder of the Popular Art Centre. He is a\u00a0former dancer,\u00a0instructor and choreographer.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ramzi Abu Radwan is a musician, composer and founder of Al-Kamandjati music society\u00a0and Dal&#8217;ouna ensemble.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Moderator: <strong>Said Abu Mualla<\/strong>, instructor\u00a0of news editing, communication and online journalism at the Arab American University in Jenin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Mazin Qumsiyeh: Conceptual dilemmas about cultural resistance<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mazin Qumsiyeh is an author, professor, lecturer and researcher at Bethlehem and Birzeit Universities and director of the Palestine Museum of Natural History and Institute for Biodiversity Research. He has published hundreds of articles and talks and several books, including\u00a0<em>Mammals of the Holy Land, Sharing the Land of Canaan: human rights and the Israeli\/Palestinian Struggle\u00a0<\/em>and <em>Popular Resistance in Palestine: A history of Hope and Empowerment.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Moderator: <strong>Manal Tamimi,<\/strong> Activist in the popular resistance in Nabi Saleh, member of the Popular committee against the wall and settlements in Ramallah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Omar Barghouthi:\u00a0Effective popular resistance &#8211; the cultural boycott model<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Omar Barghouthi is an author, researcher and\u00a0human rights activist. He is the\u00a0founding committee member of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) and\u00a0co-founder of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Moderator:\u00a0<strong>Rahma Hijji<\/strong>,\u00a0Journalist and activist with the BDS movement. Working with Al-Haya Aljadeda newspaper (website) and with 24 FM broadcasting, Hijji\u2019s focus is on cultural, social and political issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Reem Talhami: Women, theatre and resistance<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Reem Talhami is a singer and actress who has released several albums and is often featured in festivals around the Middle East. She is a\u00a0former teacher at National Institute of Music in Jerusalem and Ramallah and\u00a0performer with El Hakawati &#8211; Palestinian National Theatre and Al Kasaba Theatre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Moderator:\u00a0<strong>Eman Nazzal,<\/strong>\u00a0Feminist activist\u00a0leader in the Jenin area, coordinator of Palestinian
