During February 6-23,\u00a0Return to Palestine<\/a><\/em>\u00a0will be toured across the West Bank. Return to Palestine<\/em> is centred around\u00a0Jad, a Palestinian born in America, who\u00a0goes to Palestine for the first time in his life. Wanting to know more about his people and identity, he finds out that reality is very different from what he has seen in the news.<\/p>\n

Return to Palestine<\/em> is directed by Micaela Miranda and performed by an\u00a0ensemble of graduates of\u00a0The Freedom Theatre School<\/a>. It\u00a0was originally created in 2016, after extensive\u00a0story-gathering in the communities engaged in The Freedom Theatre\u2019s annual Freedom Ride<\/a>. The play includes\u00a0stories from Jenin refugee camp and city, Fasayel, Dheisheh\u00a0refugee camp, Mufaqara and Gaza.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a sarcastic, comic and\u00a0tragic style, the actors create the space, characters and even the emotional spaces they live in, in a virtuoso play with their bodies in a very small stage \u2013 \u201cas small as Palestine\u201d.<\/p>\n

‘Return to Palestine’ was originally\u00a0produced in 2016 as\u00a0part of the project ‘Interactive theatre as a tool for social change’ implemented by The Freedom Theatre in partnership with Ashtar for Theatre Production and Training.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The 2016 performances of \u2018Return to Palestine\u2019 were funded by the Swedish Postcode Lottery and by Sida.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The 2017 performances of ‘Return to Palestine’ are funded\u00a0by Sida and the Palestinian Ministry of Culture through\u00a0the Palestinian Cultural Fund.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
