{"id":52659,"date":"2017-02-20T08:54:04","date_gmt":"2017-02-20T06:54:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thefreedomtheatre.org\/?p=52659"},"modified":"2017-02-20T08:54:04","modified_gmt":"2017-02-20T06:54:04","slug":"return-to-palestine-performed-at-universities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreedomtheatre.org\/ar\/2017\/02\/return-to-palestine-performed-at-universities\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Return to Palestine&#8217; performed at universities, towns and villages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"s1\">On March 6,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/thefreedomtheatre.org\/ar\/return-to-palestine\/\">Return to Palestine<\/a><\/em>\u00a0will begin the second leg of its West Bank tour with a performance\u00a0at Al Quds University in Abu Dis.\u00a0Performances at Birzeit University and in villages and towns in occupied Palestine will follow in March and April.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In February alone, close to\u00a02000 youths and adults in sixteen villages, towns and refugee camps from Hebron in the south to Al Yamoun in the north saw <a href=\"http:\/\/thefreedomtheatre.org\/ar\/return-to-palestine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Return to Palestine<\/em><\/a>. For many\u00a0it was their first theatre experience. The response was overwhelmingly positive,\u00a0which testifies to\u00a0the quality of the play as well as the need for more cultural experiences\u00a0in occupied Palestine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>\u201cThis show changed my mind: the stories that you tell and doing everything in a small space gave me hope that we can liberate Palestine through theatre and art. I will tell all my friends, I will continue to defend our\u00a0cause, thank you, thank you.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Rima, audience member in Jericho<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>\u201cThis work is amazing, very detailed, in it you have all different kind of feelings: the play makes you smile, laugh, cry, think, imagine.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Anas, audience member in Ramallah<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>\u201cI can\u2019t thank you more for what you have done for us. This performance was amazing: it was very emotional but also very important.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Father of Malek (martyr who is featured in the play), Dheisheh refugee camp<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ww.thefreedomtheatre.org\/return-to-palestine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Return to Palestine<\/em><\/a>\u00a0is centred around\u00a0Jad, a Palestinian born in America, who\u00a0goes to Palestine for the first time in his life. Wanting to know more about his people and identity, he finds out that reality is very different from what he has seen in the news.<\/p>\n<p>The play is directed by Micaela Miranda and performed by an\u00a0ensemble of graduates of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thefreedomtheatre.org\/ar\/what-we-do\/theatre\/theatre-school\/\">The Freedom Theatre School<\/a>.\u00a0In a sarcastic, comic and\u00a0tragic style, the actors create the physical and emotional\u00a0spaces they live in, on a very small stage \u2013 as small as Palestine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"s1\"><em>Return to Palestine<\/em> was originally created in 2016, after extensive\u00a0story-gathering in the communities engaged in The Freedom Theatre\u2019s annual <a href=\"http:\/\/freedombuspalestine.wordpress.com\/\">Freedom Ride<\/a>.
