{"id":54207,"date":"2017-10-29T13:42:21","date_gmt":"2017-10-29T11:42:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thefreedomtheatre.org\/?p=54207"},"modified":"2017-10-29T13:42:21","modified_gmt":"2017-10-29T11:42:21","slug":"the-freedom-theatre-represents-palestine-at-kuwait-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreedomtheatre.org\/ar\/2017\/10\/the-freedom-theatre-represents-palestine-at-kuwait-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"The Freedom Theatre represents Palestine at Kuwait festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"s1\">Palestine, represented by The Freedom Theatre, participated in the Kuwait Youth Theatre Festival, held on October 15 in Kuwait City.\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/thefreedomtheatre.org\/ar\/return-to-palestine\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Return to Palestine<\/span><\/a><\/em>, a play based\u00a0on extensive\u00a0story-gathering through playback theatre with communities across the West Bank,\u00a0includes\u00a0stories from Jenin refugee camp and city, Fasayel, Dheisheh\u00a0refugee camp, Mufaqara and Gaza.\u00a0In a sarcastic, comic and\u00a0tragic style, the actors create the physical and emotional space they live in with their bodies on a very small stage \u2013 as small as Palestine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"s1\">Our team were competing against 12 other countries from the Middle East and Gulf region, vying for the first price for Best Theatrical Show. \u201cThis was truly a momentous occasion for The Freedom Theatre\u201d says Mohammed Moawia, head of multimedia at the theatre. \u201cOur first time competing against our Arab neighbours was both exciting and intimidating, however,\u00a0the team performed brilliantly against stiff competition. The response from the audience was incredible and we felt proud to bring new theatre techniques to the international theatre community\u201d. Having lost out on the top prize, to Kuwait no less, Samer Abu Hantash, live musician\u00a0in the play, won the award for Best Music and Effect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"s1\">Throughout the 14-day event, our team participated in workshops with other theatre artists as well as in seminars and\u00a0took part in\u00a0a press conference to discuss the youth theatre industry in Palestine. Our team spoke about new theatre techniques and styles being used at The Freedom Theatre as well as the use of physical drama to produce plays focusing on the voices and political perspectives of the Palestinian people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"s1\">We are deeply honoured to have been invited and we hope to take part again next year. Resulting from the festival, we have been invited to perform <em>Return to Palestine<\/em> in other countries in the Middle East and we are currently exploring international opportunities for 2018.
