Joha is a monodrama about an ancient tragicomic character who travels from history to today’s Palestine and becomes puzzled by present realities. Joha finds that everything is different: names have changed, geography has changed, there are phenomena such as ‘borders’ and ‘security cooperation’. Joha hears all these names: America, Israel, Palestine – what is that?
“Whatever I ask people, they tell me you have to have permission. I wonder if I need a permit to go to the toilet?”
Joha is concerned that people don’t seem to care about each other. “We are in a time when if you lose, I lose, and if you win, I win. Yet people’s concept of the world is the opposite.”
Actor: Kamal Awwad
Directed by: Nabil Al-Raee
Joha will be presented soon at The Freedom Theatre.
