The Freedom Theatre’s first-ever workshop for international theatre activists has begun! Micaela Miranda and Nabil Al-Raee from The Freedom Theatre will lead the nine participants, from Ireland, England, Sweden, Denmark, USA and Canada, on the exciting journey ahead. Over the next seven days the group will explore stories which highlight the interconnected personal, social and political dimensions of human experience. Using methods practiced at The Freedom Theatre they will consider themes of individual freedom and collective responsibility, all within the context of the power of art to instill hope and effect change.
Exercises on the first day focused on deepening appreciation of the personal, social and political histories which audiences may themselves use to interpret what they see. Through the co-creation of a safe space for critical thinking, the group will collaborate to devise a performance. The week is likely to be challenging on many levels but has already involved a lot of laughter.
