On Sunday 26th of August Zakaria Zubeidi, co-founder of The Freedom Theatre, was supposed to be released after more than three months in the Palestinian Authority’s prison without charge. However, at a hearing on the same day the judge decided to postpone his release for one more week.
When Zakaria’s lawyer, Farid Hawash asked how it could be that Zakaria had been allowed to go home for four days over Eid if he is considered to be a security threat, the judge replied that this decision was made by the Minister of the Interior and was not legal.
So, once again Zakaria is in limbo. Next Sunday a new court hearing will decide whether he will be relased on bail.
– Unfortunately what we thought was an end to this farce, which has proven to be illegal in many aspects and criticized by among others Human Rights Watch, is continuing, says Jonatan Stanczak, Managing Director of The Freedom Theatre.
