We start the New Year off by announcing that our talented Acting School students will perform The Caretaker at Al Kasaba Theatre in Ramallah, on January 17 at 7 pm.

A stranger is brought home by Aston. His room seems familiar but is disconnected from the world. The balance of power shifts between them and Aston’s brother, Mick, as the stranger slowly attempts to take over the house.

Soon we understand that the characters are fighting for survival and searching for some sense of identity in a world that is constantly changing and unreliable.

The Freedom Theatre’s latest in-house production, The Caretaker, is an adaptation of Harold Pinter’s celebrated play, performed by the Acting School students and directed by Nabil Al-Raee.

The Caretaker is a psychological study of family relationships and the struggle for power between two brothers, Mick and Aston, and a stranger that Aston brings home. At first the stranger seems to be a victim but slowly he attempts to take over the house. Each of the characters is fighting for survival and searching for some sense of identity in a world that is constantly changing and unreliable.

The Caretaker is serious and funny, but underneath the action is an undercurrent of fear. The play shows how family is able to band together against an intrusion – even as they still seem worlds apart.
