The Freedom Theatre is very proud to present ‘Courage, Ouda, Courage’, the result of collaboration between The Freedom Theatre and Theatre ‘Hotel Courage’. The first episode of ‘Hotel Courage’ was devised during a 5 week period working with the students of the Freedom Theatre Acting School. The outcome of that meeting has been so positive that the two companies have decided to continue their creative collaboration on the long term.
Performance at 5pm on 16th of May at The Freedom Theatre, Jenin Refugee Camp, Palestine.
Ouda, an old man, a refugee, is standing at the grave of his mother. While walking through the cemetery he meets his friend and visits his past: Together with him we travel to his village by the sea, where we meet his mother. We follow him as he flees through the mountains to Jenin where he finds employment with a tyrannical hotel restaurant manager.

Theatre ‘Hotel Courage’ is an International theatre company from Amsterdam, under the artistic leadership of Katrien van Beurden. The company develops contemporary shows based on the Commedia dell’ Arte, famous for its masks and archetypal characters like Pantalone – the old man who clings to life, and Capitano – the character who pretends to be everything that he is not. Through Commedia dell’ Arte, the first professional actors theatre in history, Hotel Courage, explore these archetypes in today’s society, with and without masks, to create a tragic-comic-poetic theatre, vivid and alive.
Hotel Courage, formally Teatro Punto, is well known for its training of professional actors, directors and film makers. Internationally they teach at schools such as the Toronto University, and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in L.A and in New York.
