Following voice training during last year, our theatre students are participating in continued voice workshops, as part of our first collaboration with the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Our hope is that this will be a start of a fruitful relationship.

The aim of this workshop is to combine the continued learning of the students in the Theatre School with developing a voice pedagogy unique to The Freedom Theatre. In two years we hope that The Freedom Theatre will have its own full time voice trainer to serve the Theatre School. To realize that aim, actor and teacher Ahmad Tobasi is taking part in intensive voice training.

The workshops are led by Daniel, a Master student in voice studies. “The students are embracing the challenge of being introduced to so many different practices with great vigor and passion”, he says.

The students will test their vocal development by working on classical and modern Arabic poetry.

“We feel like we are traveling in our minds to a different place” says Ameer Abo Aroub, theatre student. “This workshop makes us more connected with our feelings and senses, it also strengthens our imagination”.
