ABOUT THE TOUR
The photographs, film clips and recorded narratives in Palestine in Focus offer an opportunity to look through the lens of residents in a refugee camp in the West Bank of Palestine to hear the views of The Freedom Theatre professionals on the role of art as a tool of resistance.

The traveling exhibition, Palestine in Focus, displays, for the first time in the U.S, The Freedom Theatre’s reach beyond theater and drama. Its photography and video classes have been especially popular with young women. There also are workshops in creative writing, journalism, drama therapy and teacher training, and, for children, a range of activities including a summer camp.

Mohammed Haj Ibrahim is coordinator of the Multimedia Department at The Freedom Theatre and director of the acclaimed documentary, Journey of a Freedom Fighter, which traces the career of a Freedom Theatre acting graduate from armed struggle to cultural resistance. Baraa Sharqawi teaches photography at the theater. Hala Dhiab is currently a photography student at The Freedom Theatre. Mustafa Sheta is General Secretary of The Freedom Theatre.

Multimedia is one of several projects at The Freedom Theatre, which was founded in 2006 with a mission to foster creativity and independent thinking in the youth of the refugee camp, who must deal with both military occupation and a traditional society.

Best known for its drama school and its bold and inventive theater productions, The Freedom Theatre has staged 25 plays in the ten years of its existence. Its audiences have numbered over 100,000 adults and children. Its productions have toured in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Portugal, Brazil and India.
