The Freedom Bus is Back on the Road: Join the 2020 Freedom Ride!
In April 2020, the Freedom Bus will return to the streets! Since 2011, we have invited friends and comrades from around the world to join us in Palestine for the annual Freedom Ride, an initiative organized by The Freedom Theatre in partnership with popular struggle committees across Occupied Palestine. After a three-year break, we are once again calling on you to help bring cultural resistance back to the streets!
The 2020 Freedom Ride will gather artists and activists from diverse movements around the world. Palestinians and international participants will come together to stand in defiance of oppression, share experiences and ideas, build alliances, and engage in discussions on topics such as the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, the role of international civil society, and resistance through art. Participants will exchange knowledge through storytelling, teach-ins, community work, interactive theatre, and other cultural actions in some of the key areas of oppression and resistance within Occupied Palestine.
ITINERARY
The Freedom Ride begins in Jenin on 11 April, traveling next to the Jordan Valley for several days, then moving on to Hebron and the South Hebron Hills, and concluding in Bethlehem on 20 April. A more detailed itinerary will be provided to participants closer to the event.
CONDITIONS
The Freedom Ride focuses on financially impoverished communities, and living conditions during the ride will be very simple. Some host communities lack basic services, including electricity, telephone lines, running water, sewage systems, schools, and clinics. Accommodation will be in shared rooms or communal spaces, with shower facilities not always available, and outdoor toilets in some locations.
This ride requires a high tolerance level; participants should be prepared for challenging situations and willing to approach them calmly and supportively. In return, you will gain a unique, first-hand experience of life in Occupied Palestine and take an active part in the movement for freedom and justice.
COST
- Palestinian participants: 700 NIS
- Non-Palestinian participants: 600 USD
