by mustafas17 September 2020 | Jenin, Palestine, As part of The Freedom Theatre’s (TFT) Child & Youth Programme, the Female Theatre Club continues to grow as a vital space for girls and young women to create, speak, and lead through theatre.
Facilitated by TFT trainer Ranin Odeh, the club reflects TFT’s long-term commitment to building a feminist artistic network rooted in cultural resistance, one shaped by the lived realities of Palestinian girls and young women, and guided by the belief that performance is not only an artform, but a practice of agency.
A space for voice, leadership, and collective storytelling
Through intensive creative training and ensemble-based theatre practice, participants explore how theatre can challenge silence, confront injustice, and expand what is possible within their communities.
The club offers a safe yet rigorous artistic environment where girls develop:
- theatrical and performance skills
- confidence and self-expression
- critical thinking and collective reflection
- leadership through collaborative creation
In doing so, the Female Theatre Club supports girls in engaging directly with social and political questions, not as spectators, but as artists shaping their own narratives.
Theatre as cultural resistance
At The Freedom Theatre, theatre is not only a stage, it is a practice of freedom.
By supporting young women to create and perform, the Female Theatre Club strengthens women’s participation in Palestinian cultural life and contributes to a wider movement of empowerment through art. The work is carried forward through TFT’s outreach and training programmes for girls and women, supported by partners including SI Creative Force – Swedish Institute, and rooted in a belief that cultural resistance begins with the freedom to speak, imagine, and lead.
