The Freedom Theatre Joins the Ágora Ciudadana por la Cultura Palestina in Madrid

The Freedom Theatre is honoured to participate in the Ágora Ciudadana por la Cultura Palestina (Citizens’ Forum for Palestinian Culture), an international gathering bringing together artists, cultural workers, heritage professionals, human rights advocates, researchers, and institutions committed to safeguarding Palestinian culture and strengthening international cultural cooperation.
Taking place in Madrid at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Círculo de Bellas Artes, the forum unfolds at a moment when Palestinian cultural life faces unprecedented threats. Against the backdrop of ongoing war, displacement, and genocide, the gathering affirms culture as a space of memory, identity, dignity, and collective resistance.
Representing The Freedom Theatre, Palestinian actor and comedian Faisal Abu Alhayjaa will join the panel “Culture and Human Rights” on Tuesday, 14 July, alongside representatives from Al-Haq, The Palestinian Circus, and internationally recognised voices from the fields of culture and human rights.
For nearly two decades, The Freedom Theatre has worked from Jenin to create artistic spaces where theatre becomes a language of freedom, critical dialogue, and community resilience. Our participation in the Ágora reflects a shared commitment to defending cultural rights, amplifying Palestinian artistic voices, and strengthening international solidarity through the performing arts.
The programme features panel discussions, conversations, poetry, Palestinian tatreez workshops, dabkeh performances, and artistic events celebrating the richness and resilience of Palestinian culture.
Because culture is not only what survives history. It is what gives people the power to shape it.
