The last few days in Jenin has brought few good news. On an almost daily basis the Israeli army has entered the camp and left dead and wounded behind. The sounds of the night, alongside the song of crickets and roosters, are filled with gunfire.
Today an attempt to turn this cycle of violence towards a cycle of peace, was stopped at the very gate of Jenin. The children of the camp were eagerly awaiting the arrival of The Peace Cycle, a manifestation involving cyclists from all over Europe cycling to Palestine to show solidarity and support. Unfortunately the cyclists waited for over eight hours in vain and were turned away at the Jalame checkpoint.
The Freedom Theatre together with friends from Jenin camp had prepared an evening of music to welcome the cyclists. Instead of music, the sky was filled with the sound of Apache helicopters passing by overhead. Just outside Jenin they left four people dead and over 15 wounded.
