A film is currently being shot in Jenin, centering around 2013 Arab Idol winner Mohammed Assaf from Gaza. Assaf’s story is like something straight out of a fairytale: he famously snuck out of the besieged Gaza Strip to attend the auditions in Cairo, then proceeded to win not only the contest but the hearts of the whole Arab world.
The Freedom Theatre is hosting the film crew for some days, which means the whole theatre has turned into a big film set. Many have asked but we’re sorry to say that no, Mohammed Assaf is not here!…
