Yesterday was an important day for us, as we held a conference with women from the Palestinian National Coalition and our women participants of Mustakbalna project. At the conference which was held in the city of Ramallah, a dialogue took place between our trainees and women from decision-making positions in Palestine. Our Project Mustakbalna aims to promote the participation of women and girls in community peace and the application of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 with 120 Palestinian women participants, between the ages of 15 and 25 from Jenin, Ya’bad, Nablus, Tulkarem, Tubas and Hebron.
The participants of the conference along with our trainees include: Rima Nazzal, member of Palestinian National Council and member of General Assembly; Randa Siniora, Researcher in Law and Director Women’s Centre for Legal Aid and Counseling (WCLAC); Amal Abu Srour, Programme Director of Democratic and Human Rights at the Ministry of Interior; Haytham Arar, Head of Democratic and Human Rights at the Ministry of Interior; Maysoun Qawasmi, Leader of ‘By Participating, We Can’; and Suhair Odeh from Mustakbalna project.
For his part, Mustafa Sheta, director of the Freedom Theatre, stated that the importance of the project is to translate theoretical arguments into practical and critical ones, by working with women to perform direct and effective activities on the ground and creatively through drama, photography and in line with the women’s agenda, which is brought by women themselves, not from decision-maker level.
The dialogue on media also led to a discussion among coalition members and participants, where the importance of raising the level of participation of Palestinian women in decision-making was discussed. The members of the coalition were pleased to discuss the outcomes and aspirations of this project, and they appreciated the project and emphasized the importance to discuss these issues in governmental organizations. The coalition members also expressed their enthusiasm to invest in these exhibitions.
We are very pleased to hold such a vivid and promising event. We agreed to launch more photography exhibitions. Stay tuned!
