Press conference with The Freedom Theatre co-founder Zakaria Zubeidi

When: October 3 at 12 pm
Where: The Freedom Theatre, Jenin Refugee Camp

Zakaria Zubeidi, co-founder of The Freedom Theatre and former commander of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades in Jenin Refugee Camp, was in the late hours of October 1st released on bail pending a court hearing on October 7th. Zubeidi was released after having spent almost five months in Palestinian Authority prison in Jericho.
Zubeidi’s detention on May 13th came amidst a wave of raids and arrests by the Palestinian Authority in the refugee camp, where tension has risen in recent months, including several shooting incidents.
Not until recently were formal charges made against Zubeidi, stating that he is suspected of involvement in a shooting attack against the late Jenin Governor Kadura Musa on May 2nd. Zubeidi denies these charges and has carried out two hunger strikes during his imprisonment, protesting against inhumane treatment and violation of rule of law. More than 3,000 people around the world have signed petitions calling for his release.
