The second year students of The Freedom Theatre Acting School will be joined by some of their graduate colleagues to present a short showcase of Shakespeare soliloquies and scenes, including some of Hamlet’s most famous speeches and scenes form Hamlet, Macbeth, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Julius Caesar and Much Ado about Nothing.

Will-Power – A Workshop Performance of Shakespeare scenes

The presentation is part of a series of workshops led by renowned British theatre director Diane Trevis, who has worked alongside Sarah Holden Boyd, a highly commended voice teacher. The project also involves Dominic Muldowney, former Head of Music at the National Theatre (UK). The project has for the first time introduced Shakespeare to young members of Jenin refugee camp. It has been a crucial step in these aspiring actors’ development, familiarizing them with Shakespeare’s ability to illuminate a wide range of human emotions in simple yet profoundly eloquent verse, and introducing them to the immortal comedies, tragedies, melodrama, love stories and fairy tales that transcend time and culture.
