The Freedom Theatre’s first-ever tour of the UK kicks off with a first performance of The Siege on May 13 at The Lowry in Manchester. Already on May 3 in London, as part of the Performance Festival, there is a chance to hear about the work of The Freedom Theatre and participate in a discussion about political theatre and the cultural resistance that is at the core of everything The Freedom Theatre does.

Politics, Theatre and Cultural Resistance
Victoria & Albert Museum, London

Sunday, May 3 at 14:00. Free entrance.

The Freedom Theatre’s co-founder and managing director Jonatan Stanczak, playwright Howard Brenton and novelist Selma Dabbagh will be among the panel who will be debating the role of theatre in the political arena. What are the difficulties in setting up an organisation like The Freedom Theatre? What role can theatre and the arts play as a non-violent form of resistance? What compromises have to be made in zones of armed conflict?

Audience members will have the opportunity to put questions to the panel and explore how the model of The Freedom Theatre could be transposed to other areas.
