In the early morning of Wednesday 27th of February, the Israeli Occupation Forces arrested Zakaria Zubeidi one of the founders of The Freedom Theatre and one of the students of the Stone Theatre, that was destroyed during the second Intifada.
Zakaria co-founded The Freedom Theatre with Juliano Mer-Khamis who was murdered outside the theatre on 4th April 2011. Zakaria continued to support the theatre for over a decade since its establishment in 2006 as well as being a leader and pioneer of cultural resistance.
Zakaria has always kept his passion to continue to improve his life and the lives of others around him. In 2007 he was given amnesty after a deal that was made between the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli Prime Minister. Most recently he has been studying for an MA in Contemporary Arabic studies in Birzeit University and he is working as the General manager in the Commission of Detainees and EX- Detainees Affaires in the Government of the Palestinian Authority.
The arrest, which saw him taken in the middle of the night from his apartment in Ramallah, comes as a great shock for his family, friends and The Freedom Theatre.
